Sri Lanka and it's Lockdown atrocities!
Sri Lanka, imposed a nation wide lock down from the 20th of August till 21st of September, due to the spiking of not only Covid 19 cases and deaths, but also due to the prevailing delta variant spreading too, where no one strict rules nor transportation restrictions were put forward.
I have already spoken about this in our official account, but yet, there are a few bizarre, and awkward statements and actions that have been taken place since and I am obliged to enlighten the ones who don't listen or read news. I am one of them too, but I sort of of listen to news everyday morning when my parents do, and here I am wanting to inform all my fellow country people about how weird Sri Lankan government can get.First and foremost, none of us understand what lock down is! Do we? Last year march, we came across a few cases in here, we had a nation wide curfew, with strict rules, and yeah, within a few months we were able to control. We were also appreciated and commended by other countries for bringing it under control extremely faster, whereas the other countries were far behind us struggling to bring it under control. Then later on, due to an illicit affair issue, we had the spread again shooting up in October, we had the imposition of curfew for a few weeks followed by lockdowns and we brought it down with the jab of vaccination. Then yet again, we had the commencement of spike of Covid 19 cases in April this year, and here we are still unable to bring it under control. It wasn't easy like last year because of the leniency the government has shown in bringing the number of cases down.
IDK whether to say this as leniency of carelessness or no-empathy. God knows what, but the president refused to impose a nationwide lock down ever since April, for a reason I know which is the most lamest and which made me realize that people are so towards power greed and they would go to any extent to achieve what they desire. It took him more than 4 months to impose a lockdowns, but with a lot of moderated rules. Example - people can open the shops, general public can go where ever they want, vehicles can travel on the road, there's no restrictions to travel from one district to another.. I do understand the fact that the economy of the country is facing a fall and hence the income of a normal person has become extremely low that he/she cannot even run the family for a day. But what should have been the ideal solution for this? What is government? What should be the main purpose of forming a government? Isn't it to serve the people? Then shouldn't the government be funding people who can't even meet their daily needs? Shouldn't that be the first solution that strikes their bloody head? But yeah, they decided against, and stated that for the well-being of low income people they did allow people to carry on their business! To hell with their concern and thanks to that government which was being seriously retarded, because still we haven't seen a down fall in the number of Covid 19 cases, it is still rising and we are still under warning by other countries.
I hope you'll know that other countries have advices their country citizens to not travel to Sri Lanka and have made our country a red area, showing increased number of cases and death. On a daily basis, there are at least 200-250 new cases, with 150-200 death due to Covid 19. Out of each day death, 3-4 people are pregnant mothers. Even after all this statistics, politicians think that the situation ain't serious yet, and that's what makes all the general public, I'm sorry, not all, at least most of the general public to be in constant rage.
Speaking of vaccination, we had the jab of Asta Zenecca from February this year, people above the age of 30 obtained it, but it took more than 5 months for the government to bring down more vaccinations as the second jab. Because initially they got down Asta Zenecca from India, but India was in need as they were facing a cruel situation, so couldn't fund Sri Lanka. Then we got enough amounts and started the second jab only in July mid or end. Which was two late. The actual rule of following this vaccinations is that the second dose has to be obtained within 4-5 weeks. Which wasn't applied at this case. We are now having Sinopharm, Pfizer, Moderna and Sputnik also been jabbed. PFizer being the ultimate efficient one is kept for students and people who are about to leave country with student visa. As far as I know, people have not been taking vaccination also into consideration. Some of them are scared of the side effects, some of them are waiting for a special kind of of vaccination as that's considered effective, some haven't obtained because they say that alcohol is prohibited after the jab, etc. But as general public and as a responsible citizen, what should be our concern? Shouldn't we be taking the jab, where ever and whichever brand is given? How lame is it to wait for your desired vaccination to be brought down to sri Lanka to get them? There are beggars on the road who can't even afford a mask, they would be in need of these vaccinations but aren't getting any, where as we take our status for granted and try acting smart to demand and get what we want, which is taking things for granted. Hell, I am angry on people who says that they haven't got the vaccination, I think they are not only irresponsible, but they are the ones who should be considered anti nationals and unpatriotic. Damn people who call myself anti nationals for not supporting the Sri Lankan cricket team. Yeah, I can under 1st and the mentality of some guys who abuse another just because they don't support their own country cricket team, freaks! It's not me who is an anti-nationalist, but you guys who think that patriotism is all about supporting a sports team of the same country, but not acting as a responsible citizen in the country. I hope the ones who don't understand the seriousness about the situation, get this thing into their heads. If you'll haven't got even your 1st jab, then go and get it done, without playing with others life. Not wearing masks, not willing to practice social distancing, unwillingness to obey the health and hygienic habits of people, who are still on the hunt of visiting outstation, shopping just for social media purposes is something that constantly bothers me. I am appalled by this illiterate behavior of people who have done their higher degrees and obtained a vast knowledge about a desired subject, but still act like immature and give the wrong example to the younger generations. You guys are not only putting yourself into danger, but for sure are going to put your loved ones lives into danger as well. Not all of us have the same immunity, all if us are unique and the probability of catching the virus varies. Just because you have got both the jabs, doesn't mean you'll can roam all over the country. I have also heard people saying that, somehow we are going to die, so why not now! Seriously? If you wish to die, then go ahead, but what sin did the ones who are with you and who loves you have done to experience the pain of going through this quarantine? For heaven's sake, stay back home until things get back normal, if not for yourself, at least for people whom you care.
I've wanted to write about some bizarre things that have happened in this last three weeks during this lockdowns. Lemme come to those points now.
1. The rise in cost of living. The price of food has drastically increased. People have been suffering to get goods and services to their doorstep, which I think is an unfair statement. We are how under food emergency, which means we are facing a shortage in food products and which means government can impose any law in terms of food. There's a shortage for milk powder, dhal, sugar, rice and what not! Of course will politicians have houses that looks like palaces, in well developed areas, away from diseases. They get food at their doorstep. With a single touch using technology they get all what they need in a fraction of second, so why would they even care about people who are unable to get food, good and services at this pandemic?
And our smart and intellect politician has mentioned that people should hereafter eat only twice a day rather than consuming three meals. What an idea sir ji? Is this the sort of solutions you'll are going to give back to back for people who are facing a financial and food crisis?? Like wow, I am still amazed and thinking of how people could come up with such ideas to put forward, that too in media, live coverage.

Also a point to be noted, our government panel consists of a few doctors too, but none of the doctors are appointed as health ministers, it's a person without any knowledge about science and technology who is appointed as health minister. From this you'll will know how smart we Sri Lankans are! Also our politicians are really good at making a comment and then denying it saying people have misinterpreted it, I mentioned it in a good intention.

2. Mr. President and his beloved brother with along their respective family is on vacation. Along with a few bouncers. IDK what sort of urgent purpose they have got to visit abroad at a situation like this. People are dying and getting affected, meanwhile two responsible people who should be taking actions against the spread of a disease is nicely chilling in another country. Even if it is a political visit, why should they take their families with them! More over who is even finding their transport inclusive of accommodation, food, travel expenses etc.? It's from the government money, basically, our money! Of course, I would not blame them entirely, because this is our fate, we elected them thinking we would see a change, but here we go again! No comments, simply waste. Our fault totally (not mine though!

)
3. Amidst all this chaos, Kelaniya over head bridge project is completed and was opened a few days ago. I saw the pictures first and thought it was London, then to read the headlines, a person from abroad had tweeted that hereafter people wouldn't want to visit London it seems because Sri Lanka is equally beautiful just like London with the bridge lightings. Yeah right! People are suffering to get food, no income, their daily life is affected and disrupted and these fools are playing the fool by opening a tourist spot? For what purpose? What does this mean to the population of this country? I know, the project looks pretty, I'm glad we have an added tourist spot in our country, but is it necessary now? The same with port city! It's a dream to have such beautiful constructions, but what's the need for it now? Shouldn't we be sorting the prevailing pandemic now? This is insane!
4. Government asks the women of Sri Lanka to delay pregnancy, to avoid increase in the number of cases and deaths. If they had mentioned a reason that you could validate then I wouldn't mind. But the reason is to prevent increase in number. If someone who is sensible is appointed as a minister, would have stated that the mental health of a mother is more important for to have a healthy child birth and labor, for that the mother should be able to engage herself into physical exercises, especially walking. The relaxation one gets when walking out rather than walking within the house is indescribable, hence during this situation it's better to avoid pregnancy! Doesn't this make sense? Rather than this, our very own people go beating around the bush with awkward and bizarre validations.
5. According to today's news alert, government states that preschool and school that functions with 200 kids can be started in another two weeks. People who have commonsense will know that this is a risk. One is because the kids who are in preschool ain't going to be jabbed, two they would be affected soon, the transmission of diseases from one to another would be at a higher rate. It's not like Covid is a non-contagious disease. If it was, we would not be facing hell like this. So starting up the smaller ones schooling is not going to be a wiser step to take. More over, heard that children above the age of 12 were about to get Pfizer, but sign of those kids receiving them! IDK when we are going to abide by the statements that we ourselves release!!
No idea what more our politicians have in stock to entertain us during this stressful lock down. I mean at least for some of us it's lock down, whereas for others it's just a normal day where you can do whatever you want. I just hope they learn their lessons soon, so that they would know the value of a life and would take preventive measures against losing lives. A part of them states, that this is according to the theory of evolution by Charles Darwin, that survival of the fittest process is taking place, and a balance in over population is brought about, but on the other hand, people are losing their loved ones, they are unable to see them last, cremation and even burial cannot be done according to their tradition, which would be painful! It's just easy for people who say that this is life and we have to face it, only when one goes through this awful time period, will they know how hurtful and irreplaceable and unbearable their losses are going to be. There hell loads happening, but none of the media, neither people are talking about anything. First and foremost, can you'll even trust the statistics that is reported by the the health ministry? What if they are not releasing the real picture of the reality? The basic truth is that they are not doing PCR for everyone, mostly they conduct RAT (Rapid Antigen Test) and for this test, when you have a common cold itself it shows positive and will be identified as a person who should be quarantined. Now that people are asked to be self quarantined, even that is taken into advantage, because they come out of the house, especially if it's an apartment then yeah, no privacy and freedom for the other people who live in the same community. I also heard that when PCR is done for the foreign returns, the passengers do bribe the medical officers with money and BOOM, now they are free to go anywhere, even though they haven't got the exact result.
I feel sorry for all the front line workers In the medical field, who are putting their lives in danger, considering the well being of the public. They are sacrificing their life, families and their comfort, just to treat the ones who are affected and to serve them comfort and medical purposes. When people are more interested in posting pics of their poses just to get attention are going to still exist, there's not going to be a decrease in the new cases, hence the work load of all the doctors and nurses are going to still spike up. Remember, those of you who are taking all this services for granted, this is what I always say, KARMA IS A BOOMERANG, YOU WILL DEFINITELY REAP WHAT YOU SOW. WHAT GOES AROUND WILL COME BACK TO YOU, WITH MORE INTENSITY, SO BEWARE. Realize things now and learn to restrict And control yourselves From going out unnecessarily.
May all the souls whom we lost due to this pandemic, rest in peace. May the families of the demised gain all the courage to face the irreplaceable loss. May there be no loss from their family further. May god bless all of us with a healthy life and Covid free country. I hope we would be free from this hell sooner.
Also a special concern to all the students who are schooling, all the students who are at college and about to get into college. When I talk about them, my mind races back in time to my good old days. School and college days come only once in life time. It cannot be rerun again, we can't bring back time. Once lost, that's it! These students now are stuck with their electronic devices, losing all the fun they should be obtaining and going through in life at this time. I am glad that I don't belong to this sick era, but I don't think that these kids deserve this sort of punishment for what the older people had done, thinking they are doing good deeds. It's unfortunate that children are getting mentally stressed and their mental health, even physical health is getting affected by this virtual classes, but we have been left with very few options. It's like someone holding only one finger in front of you to pick one. But there are schools and students who can't afford to conduct and afford virtual classes and electronic devices respectively. It's depressing to hear that students from backward family is losing their opportunity of education. Not only that, the postponing of examinations, the IN assurance in a fixed period for examinations, and the vast syllabus to cover before the public examinations also brings in a lot of disadvantageous effects for students during this era. This is why I feel so sorry to all the kids now.
All I hope for is that this disease should come to an end, or there should be a definite solution to this issue at hand. Which I have less hope for, IDK my mind fails to accept that anyone is going to find a final solution for this anytime soon. But fingers crossed, I hope the world can prove me wrong in this matter. As this is a constructed virus it's a harder process to find a medicine to cure this completely, but let's just pray and hope for the best. Let's be united and stand as one against all odds and evils, let's stay back at home until a sustainable period occurs and things get back to normal. God bless..
