Are women taking their rights and freedom for granted!? -Sri Durga Balachandrarajan-

We live in a stereotypical society where we have to continuously remind people, who live in the community, to show equal importance as well as equality for women as much as they express for men. We already know what sort of male dominance we are experiencing on a daily basis. METOO and so many other organizations are striving harder to emphasize on maintaining the self esteem, equal respect, prevention of sexual abuse and molestation by perverts and jerks, as well as empowerment of women in the society. As the society and the community is still trying to take all these into them, something really absurd and bizarre occurs, which actually showcases that women are taking their rights for granted.

Just a few months ago, we had the report of the Zomato delivery guy and the girl, and it was concluded with the verdict saying that it was the girl's fault. Within a few months, now again we are back to square one, where again girls think that they could take their upper hand in a very bad circumstance.

This is about the incident that occurred in Lucknow, India, a few days ago. It was noted that a girl who was trying to cross the road in a weird manner, caught hold of a cab driver, who didn't even have the intention to disturb any passengers or any of the people who were crossing the road. It was seen that the girl repeatedly assaulted the cab driver, for no particular reason.

The CCTV footage shows the entire video of her crossing the road in Awadh, Lucknow. If you guys have looked into it, you'll will know that her crossing the road was random, not proper and wasn't abiding by the road rules. It's overwhelming to see girls crossing road with that much irresponsibility, as its dangerous not only for the person who is crossing, but for the one's who are driving the vehicles too. She just crosses the road, and towards the middle pavement, she come to a complete halt, in front of an approaching cab. She suddenly is infuriated for no reason, and starts damaging the car mirrors of all sides, you could see her running all over, banging the mirror and causing damage.

She starts provoking the cab driver by speaking inappropriately and gets him out of the car. Once he was out, she starts slapping him forcefully, seems like she is a professional slapper (Hilarious, isn't it? The way she slaps with a small jerk or jump is also very funny to watch, but the blows are pretty hard). It is said that she slapped him 22 times, but I guess it should be more than that. The worst part here is that the public continued to watch and take videos, but failed miserably to stop the incident from happening. This includes the traffic patrol too. It was disappointing to see none of them coming forward to stop this girl from assaulting an innocent, yet it was also observed that she assaulted whoever who came in the way between herself and the cab driver. There was a guy who came in rescue of the cab driver, but it seems that she was infuriated even more when someone came to stop her from assaulting.

The girl filed a complaint against the cab driver, and this video was going viral, like wild fire. But unfortunately, the limelight is not on her, rather everyone started condemning the girl and the police officers who were present at the site, for not taking any action against the girl and most importantly not preventing an assault in a huge public view. After the backlash of several social media posts and news and even reports, now an FIR has been filed against the girl, and there are so many posts and hash tags asking the police to get her behind the bars, which I think is fair enough. Never have I ever seen a girl behave with such violence in the presence of a huge audience, it was embarrassing plus shameful on behalf of all women. It was as if the girl was going through a Bipolar Phase during this instance. It was a very bad example that showcases, that the women and girls in the society are taking things for advantage in their favor.

Living in a patriarchal society, we, all women and girls, almost all the times, in a very frequent manner, have faced a lot of challenges, may it be domestic violence, murders, physical violence such as sexual assaults', gang rapes, molestation etc. I myself being a feminist am trying to establish and empower women I know, starting from students, to not give a damn about what others think of yourself, because you know yourself better than anyone else in this world, hence, what the society thinks of whatever you're doing is pointless to even worry over. So many organizations like METOO, Equality now, UN women and many more are trying their best to educate children and establish and maintain the dignity of women amongst all men in the society, or even in the world. But incidents as such are instances where the entire female community can be looked down upon. This can sabotage the dignity and respect that the women all over had earned with a lot of effort to empower themselves.

It definitely looks like the girl took her right to fight over as advantage, she herself has taken this opportunity for granted. While, all the other members of these organizations are trying to prove a point that women are not to be objectified, they deserve equal rights and they should stand for themselves when there is an injustice occurring may be to herself or even to some other girl or person in the space. Empowerment is the process of becoming confident, stronger and claiming one's rights and control one's life. Empowerment cannot be taught, it has to be self realized and practiced, in order for it to become a part of us. Yet it all becomes a waste when women act inappropriately calling themselves empowered. Acting out for a lame purpose, or for no reason at all, like what this girl did ain't going to be praised nor mentioned as empowerment. It's a total shame for all of us, being a female especially, for what she has done. It basically reflects on all of us. I seriously don't understand when the society is going to open up their damn mouth and speak up when there is a necessity.

Now that she claims through social media, that she acted upon a driver who was smoking while driving. God knows what she is up to! But still, getting in violent act, just for a reason as such ain't going to justify anything here, plus we don't have proof to get to know that the cab driver was drinking nor smoking at all. I am not trying to be biased, but according ton what all of us watched through the footages posted all over the social media, itseems like nothing as such happened. But bringing up this sort of, socially responsible, innocent character through posts is a little overwhelming.

Seriously? What on earth was that? Why couldn't a group of people claim or even demand that the girl is committing a mistake? What the hell were going in their minds? Did they think it's a public stunt? To be entertained with? and what's with recording fight videos? Is it to create attention by posting the video in their respective social media accounts? Yes I definitely think whoever who posted the video, definitely has gotten themselves into public attention, as it has gone viral than beyond. When are we even going to act as humans? React towards injustice, Speak up for someone who is really innocent? Stand against violence? Of course, the public would have thought, the traffic police themselves are holding back from speaking up, then why would we want ourselves into trouble? Well, I'm not surprised if this was the reason no-one other than a few was involved in prevention. The individuals who have to take charge when a public fight occurs itself is watching the occurence mutely, so no point blaming the public, yeah? That says it all, isn't it? Finally, we will be blaming each other for not taking any action. But yes, agreed. Technically speaking, it should be the official's responsibility to bring in peace and harmony amongst people who are into violence, but instead they decided to sit back and enjoy, as if it was some sort of a stunt scene choreographed for a commercial blockbuster. Ha Ha, I can't think of any other than to describe it this way though.

Why should we always take action against the most obvious criminal after a social media outburst? Isn't it very much visible that the police should have filed a complaint on the girl, rather than accepting the complaint that the girl gave opposing the innocent cab driver and the guy who came to rescue the driver? Oh well, don't tell me that the officers didn't go between because it was a girl who was involved in this public act, and they didn't want to feed their names in any METOO stories, like seriously? When all people who are literate knows who is at fault, Officials has to know that too, yeah? This is what infuriates me further. It's the tolerance and irresponsibility of such officials that leads to violence as such. I wish and hope that the girl gets arrested and also gets the relevant and justified punishment.

We as females should always hold responsible for our actions and reflect upon ourselves to maintain the dignity, respect, rights and empowerment. We deserve all what men are experiencing, but being violent for no reason will not make what we acquire or what we are to acquire easy. Let's stand our ground, against unfair treatment and lets fight together for justice. #arrestlucknowgirl

"Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It's about making life more fair for women everywhere. It's not about a piece of the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It's about baking a new pie"
